Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 August 2026
This policy explains how Cubio AS (org.nr
925 322 504 MVA, Fridtjof Nansens veg 43, 2816 Gjøvik,
Norway), the data
controller, handles personal data when you buy and use our apps. Questions:
support@cubio.no.
Apps installed from the Connect IQ Store
Some of our apps are published on Garmin's
Connect IQ Store rather than sold here.
Nothing in the rest of this policy applies to them.
Where such an app is paid, the purchase is made with Garmin
and handled entirely by Garmin: we never see your name, your email or your
payment details, and there is no licence, activation or account on our
side to collect anything for.
Common to all of them:
- What you enter or set up in the app is written to the app's own
on-device storage by Garmin's Connect IQ framework and
stays on the watch. We never receive it, and it is
removed when you uninstall the app.
- Garmin, not Cubio, operates the store, the purchase
and the install. That is covered by Garmin's own privacy policy. As the
developer we see only aggregate, non-identifying store and sales
statistics such as download and purchase counts — never who you are, and
never your data.
- There is no account, no login and no identifier of
any kind on our side. Nothing an app sends us, if it sends anything, is
tied to a person.
What each app does differs, and the difference matters:
- BallastManager sends nothing at all. It requests
no Connect IQ permissions, reads no sensor
(no GPS, no barometer, no heart rate), and makes no network
request of any kind. It cannot send data anywhere, and it does
not.
- GlideRange never sends us your position. It reads the
GPS and the barometer to work out what
you can still glide to, but that arithmetic happens entirely on the
watch and the answer never leaves it. Its one use of the network is
downloading your own list of landing fields: you upload
that list at
up.cubio.no, get a five-character code,
and type it in once. The watch then asks our server for the list
belonging to that code — the request carries the code and
nothing else, no position and no identifier — and after it has
the list the app flies with no phone and no connection. If it records
your flight, that recording is saved to Garmin Connect
like any other activity; it does not come to us.
- GlideWatch sends us your position, continuously, and has to.
It shows the aircraft near you, so it asks our traffic service
(
ogn.cubio.no) “what is close to this point?”
every few seconds for as long as the app is open. Each request carries
your latitude, longitude and altitude, plus the range
and height band you have set. It uses the GPS and
Communications permissions for exactly this, over your
phone's connection.
For GlideWatch specifically:
- Your position is used to answer that one request, and then
it is gone. We do not store it, and we do not build a track
from it: there is no database of where anyone has been, and nothing to
key one on if there were. Like any web service, our server does write a
short-lived operational log of the requests it handles, and because the
position travels in the web address of the request it appears there
too. Those entries are kept only for running and debugging the service,
are rotated away automatically, and are not linked to a person, an
account or a purchase — there is nothing on our side to link them
to.
- The aircraft positions we send back come from the
Open Glider Network, a public feed of aircraft that
transmit their own position. We publish nothing to it: being visible
there is a decision made by whatever tracker is in the aircraft, not by
our app.
- Switching the traffic source to PureTrack is optional,
and is the one thing that needs your own active PureTrack Pro
subscription. If you do, the watch talks to PureTrack
directly and your position goes to them under
their
privacy policy, not ours. Pairing uses your own PureTrack login
through our pairing page; we pass it straight to PureTrack and never
store your password. OGN is the default and needs no such account.
- Beyond that, the server keeps ordinary technical records of its own
operation — errors and service health. These carry no position
data and are not tied to a person.
GlideWatch can also transmit your position — continuously,
if you switch it on — and that is publication, not processing.
The app can send your own position to PureTrack so that
other pilots and your ground crew can see you on their screens. This is worth reading twice, because it is
the one thing the app does that other people can see:
- It is off by default, at every launch. Nothing is
transmitted unless you set up an aircraft and then choose it from the
picker when the app starts, and the app explains what you are agreeing
to before it will let you. You can switch it on or off whenever you
like, including in flight.
- This is separate from using PureTrack as a traffic source,
and it needs no PureTrack account or subscription. The two
are independent: being seen is open to anyone, while receiving
PureTrack's traffic feed is the part that needs PureTrack Pro. You can
transmit while reading traffic from OGN, which is the default.
- When it is on, it keeps going. This is not one ping: the watch takes
a fix every few seconds and sends them to
PureTrack in small batches, for as long as you leave it
on — so what is published is a continuous track of your
flight, not a single point. It only does this while you are
actually moving; below walking-to-the-grid speed
nothing is buffered and nothing is sent, so the track starts when you
fly rather than when you switch the app on.
- Your position appears on their public map, where
anyone can see it. It is identified by the
registration you entered,
or, if you entered none, by an anonymous
GW… marker
derived from your watch. Choosing not to enter a registration is a
real choice: the marker alone does not name you.
- These go straight from your watch to PureTrack. We
do not receive them, do not relay them and keep no copy. What PureTrack
does with them is covered by
their
privacy policy.
- You can stop it at any time, including in flight, from the same menu.
Choosing not to transmit costs you nothing else: the traffic display
works exactly the same either way.
If you contact support@cubio.no about
one of these apps, we hold your email and message for as long as it takes
to answer you. That is the only personal data involved.
Payments
The sections from here on describe the apps bought on this
site. Purchases are processed by Paddle, our reseller and
Merchant of Record. Paddle collects and processes your payment and billing
details as an independent controller under its own privacy policy; we never
receive or store your card details.
What we store
To deliver and license your purchase, Cubio stores only:
- your email address, to send your activation code and
support replies;
- the Paddle customer and transaction identifiers for
your order, to match a licence to a purchase and process refunds;
- a device identifier from your watch, used to bind the
licence to the device at activation.
We do not create accounts or passwords, and we run no advertising or
third-party analytics on this site or in the apps.
Why, and on what basis
We process this data to perform our contract with you — delivering the
activation code, validating the licence, and handling refunds — and to meet
legal obligations such as tax records (largely met by Paddle as Merchant of
Record).
Who processes it
- Paddle — payments, invoicing, VAT, refunds (Merchant
of Record).
- one.com — outbound email delivery for activation codes
and support.
- Our hosting provider (Amazon Web Services, EU region)
— runs the licence server and this website.
Retention
Because the licence is perpetual, we keep the licence record and the email
associated with it for as long as the licence is valid, so you can
re-activate after a reinstall or watch transfer. You may ask us to delete
your data; where deletion would end an active licence we will tell you
before doing so.
Cookies
This website sets no tracking or advertising cookies. The Paddle checkout
uses cookies strictly necessary to process your payment.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to
object to or restrict processing. Contact
support@cubio.no. You may also lodge a
complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).
